\"A'sWAward\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As soon as I retired from the theatre my Kemptown friend, musician David Ingledew, commissioned me to write the book of a musical called ALICE\u2019S WORLD.\u00a0 He had written beautiful songs, music and lyrics, and it was my job to build a script, i.e. a libretto, around them without changing a word.<\/p>\n

We added one song for the character of the Dormouse and David wrote another song for the White Rabbit, a female character whose transformation from a subservient worried creature, through an avenging Red Queen, and finally to a grieving parent, reflects the spine of my new interpretation of Lewis Carroll\u2019s work, all in the spirit of championing his campaign for repressed Victorian children.<\/p>\n

ALICE\u2019S WORLD was produced at the Brighton Festival, and won first place at the Moondance International Film Festival for Children\u2019s Theater but because the musical is difficult to produce I wrote the libretto into a prose story, entitled ALICE LEAVES THE GARDEN.<\/p>\n
